The Origin of Battery

Battery technology is a great invention with a wonderful and long history. The word “battery” first appeared in 1749. It was first used by the American inventor Benjamin Franklin. At that time, he used a series of capacitors to conduct electrical experiments. He used dilute sulfuric acid as electrolyte to solve the problem of battery polarization, and produced the first non polarized zinc copper battery, also known as “Daniel battery”, which can maintain a balanced current.

In 1860, France’s Prantel invented a battery using lead as an electrode, which was also the predecessor of the battery; At the same time, the French Rex invented the carbon zinc battery, which led the battery technology to the dry battery field.

The commercialization of battery technology began with the dry battery, which was invented by the Englishman Harrison in 1887 and mass produced in the United States in 1896. Meanwhile, Thomas Edison invented the rechargeable iron nickel battery in 1890 and realized commercial mass production in 1910. Since then, thanks to commercial driving, battery technology has ushered in an era of rapid development. Thomas Edison invented alkaline batteries in 1914, Schlecht and Akermann invented nickel cadmium battery sintered plates in 1934, Neumann developed sealed nickel cadmium batteries in 1947, and Lew Urry (energizer) developed small alkaline batteries in 1949, thus ushering in the era of alkaline batteries.
